BUDGET CUTS ON THE HORIZON

Recently, the SBCTC advised all colleges that due to the upcoming budget cuts portions of the Opportunity Grant funds may be affected and colleges allocations may be adjusted.

What does that mean for students?
-Depending on the severity of the cut, the scope of assistance that each student is offered will be reduced. For example we may only be able to help with a small book award instead of books and tuition or perhaps only be able to fund 5 credits of tuition and no books.

What can you do?
Pay attention to announcements from the Governor and Legislature. Write letters to your local representatives and share how the Opportunity Grant has impacted your educational experience.

These are hard times but one thing is for sure, we will get thru it.

Applications are CLOSED

The Opportunity Grant is currently closed for new Fall applications. Anyone interested in getting on the waitlist for Winter or Spring, may submit an application and i will contact you when funds are available.

Applications are currently being accepted

I am currently accepting applications for the Opportunity Grant for Fall - Spring of 2010-2011. Grants will be awarded based on availability of funds. We anticipate that need for the grant will greatly exceed the amount of funds available.

If nothing ever changed, there'd be no butterflies.

In the Fall quarter, here are some of the changes that will undoubtly effect many of you.

-Tuition costs will go up by 7%. For example a 5 cr. Biology class in 2009- 2010 cost $387.15 , it will cost $416.80 this coming school year. This raise in tuition will mean the Opportunity Grant will most likely help less students as it will not cost more per student.

-Additional fees (Clinical fee, admission fee, ect.)

-Basic Food Employment Training program (BFET) may cease on the RTC campus or be greatly reduced.

Please be mindful that these changes were only implemented after many meetings/ discussions and countless hours of analyzation.

2010 FAFSA

It's that time again.....Time to file a new FAFSA and there are some important thing to remember.

*The official FAFSA is at www.FAFSA.gov – not at a .com Web site. If you go to a .com site, you will probably be asked to pay to submit the FAFSA. Remember, the first F in "FAFSA" stands for "free" – so use the official government site to submit your application.

* Apply for a pin at least 3 days before you intend to file your FAFSA. Otherwise you will need to print a signature page and mail it in, which ends up taking longer.

*If you were born after 1987 , you will need to provide parental information.

*The 2010-2011 FAFSA will be used to determine your eligiblity for aid Summer 2010 quarter.

If you would like assistance in completing your FAFSA, please give me a call.
